Our Commitment

Survival Ready is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to ensure we provide equal access to all of our users.

We believe that emergency preparedness information should be accessible to everyone, regardless of ability. In a real emergency, accessible information can be the difference between safety and danger.

Conformance Standards

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more user-friendly for everyone. The guidelines have three levels of accessibility (A, AA, and AAA). We have chosen Level AA as our target.

WCAG 2.1 Level AA covers four principles:

Perceivable

Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive.

Operable

User interface components and navigation must be operable by all users.

Understandable

Information and the operation of the user interface must be understandable.

Robust

Content must be robust enough to be interpreted by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies.

Measures We Take

Survival Ready takes the following measures to ensure accessibility:

Semantic HTML

We use proper HTML elements to ensure content structure is meaningful and navigable.

Alt Text for Images

All images include descriptive alternative text for screen reader users.

Keyboard Navigation

All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard for users who cannot use a mouse.

Color Contrast

We maintain sufficient color contrast ratios between text and backgrounds.

Dark Mode

We offer a dark mode option to reduce eye strain and improve readability for some users.

Responsive Design

Our site adapts to different screen sizes and zoom levels up to 200%.

Clear Typography

We use legible fonts with appropriate sizing and line spacing for comfortable reading.

Descriptive Links

Link text clearly describes the destination or purpose of each link.

Compatibility with Assistive Technologies

Our Website is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

  • Screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack)
  • Screen magnification software
  • Speech recognition software (Dragon NaturallySpeaking)
  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Switch access devices
  • Browser zoom functionality (up to 200%)

Known Limitations

Despite our best efforts, some areas of our Website may not yet be fully accessible. We are aware of the following limitations and are actively working to resolve them:

  • Some older blog posts may have images without adequate alt text — we are updating these on an ongoing basis
  • Some third-party content (ads, embedded videos) may not meet all accessibility standards
  • PDF documents may not be fully accessible to screen readers
  • Some interactive comparison tables may be difficult to navigate with screen readers
